If you watched Disney’s version of The Jungle
Book and thought, “that kid would have been eaten by the end of the
first song” then Life of Pi is for you.
There are no jovial
bears with highly developed choreographic skills breaking into song and
although a Bengal tiger is a source of peril in both, Richard Parker is just
trying to stay alive. He is no Shere Khan, malevolently hunting an orphaned
child; when Richard Parker roars and lashes out, it is terrifying but he is
only acting according to his nature.
